Project Snehasadan

Mentorship Program for the kids ( at Snehasadan)

What have we been doing from past 4 months --

We a group of seven people have been going to Snehasadan every Sunday for 3 hrs and spending time with kids. What we do in these 3 hrs is teach them or play with them.

We have divided children in 2 categories - class 8th+ and below class 8th

Class 7th and below

We teach them basic communication English and other activities like Drawing,Painting.

Class 8th and above

Subjects ( based on their school curriculum) that we teach them are Maths,Hindi and Social Science.

Problems that we are facing are --

1) Communication - For most of kids Kanada is their mother tongue and we have one member in our group who can speak Kanada, which makes it difficult at times to explain them certain concepts e.g Scholarship or Shatrvritti.

2) Group of 7 people to come regularly is at times is not possible though we try our level best that atleast 3-5 of us are present at Snehasadan. As regularl contact with the kids is the only way we can have everlasting effect on them.

3) Teaching is an art and not all of us can do that. Yeah we can do that in our own ways and that is important.Kids have been just pushed to next standard and their basics are not clear so to teach them their school curriculum is at times frustrating.

Possible solutions --

1) If we can have few volunteers who have Kanada as their mother tongue

2) If we can have few more volunteers join in this initiative we can do round robin kind of setting where in we have to devote 2 weekends(3 hrs every Sunday) a month and we can maintain the regularity in terms of contact with the kids.

3) We are working on this initiative to find a tutor for class 8th and above who can work with the kids on regular basis (i.e 3-4 days a week). Who can take care of School curriculum to boost their ( kids) score in exams which will result in building their confidence level that they can learn ,they can study, they can be somebody in life.

You are most welcome to volunteer for painting, drawing, reading books to them, play with them or anything you are good at and want to share it with the kids.

Aim is to broaden their horizons and make them aware of different perspectives to look at things.
