Nothing else mattters

So close, no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
and nothing else matters

Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say
and nothing else matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
and nothing else matters

never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
but I know

So close, no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
and nothing else matters

never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
but I know

Never opened myself this way

All these words I don't just say

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us, something new
Open mind for a different view
and nothing else matters

never cared for what they say
never cared for games they play
never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
and I know

So close, no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
No, nothing else matters

D Traveller : Mangalore and beyond!

Part II -- Driving!Lazing!Pondering! in Mangalore

The Travelogue!

As always, all my trips start at Office. So, this time, this day i.e 20th Nov I start at 9:00 AM towards office,on Outer ring road, with the resolve to finish all my work by 8:30 PM and come back to my house,in BTM, by 9:00 PM then pack my gear, and have grub, and leave for Majestic to catch bus, at 11:00 PM, for Mangalore.

And as always what happened --

9:25 PM - Me having a conversation with my manager about what I understood, from certain vendor, about calculation of share of preference and what my manager understood and how both the "understandings" are not identical. Me sitting upright on chair, half on it and other half in air, in kinda of posture suggesting that I am some how just managing to control very very urgent nature's call.

9:45 PM - Me on my bike, actually Deepak's, and riding as if my ass on fire zing! zang! zoooom! no truck,no car ,no pothole, nothing mattered but just consistent speed of 70 KM/hr in Bangalore traffic. Ofcourse barring traffic signals.

10:15 PM - Me packing my bag running down the stairs for Auto

10:50 PM - Me in Volvo towards Mangalore. Phew!!

But I guess, in retrospect, the run was all its worth! Mangalore was amazing! A city born in antiquity, matured in parts, developed in other parts, young at heart, birth place of major banks, counted among major port cities of India, leader in private entrepreneurship, center for pilgrimage and of course a ideal place to relax for buggers like us on amazingly serene, impossibly virgin beaches.

City has a laid back feeling to it at the first sight, but the humdrum starts to unfold as you move little away from city center towards Suratkal.Where you find loads and loads of trailers moving with loads of timber, Malaysian wood called as Pincoda, and other raw materials or may be finished products from one of many industries present in Mangalore. To name a few KIOCL, MCF Ltd. ,Ultra Tech cement.

Extrapolation!

We have learned about it in school,College. Whenever you don't know the Ans take the best guess i.e look at the data available and extrapolate! And in strict mathematical terms - Extrapolation is the process of constructing new data points outside a discrete set of known data points.**

Now extrapolating the hard facts/kewl insights/fascinating views*, given by Dr. V S Ramchandran, author of Phantoms in the Brain, on the workings of the brain to apply on thoughts, a world where we are lone rangers.

Now, if our hands and legs are just mere mappings in the brain then what about the opinions, beliefs, and faith et. al. Are they also just mappings? Opinions in my opinion are very personal thing, a kind of a mapping in the brain or a perspective, to relate to things/places/people. And as with mappings, they can change.

Then next obvious question is -- which opinion or which perspective should I have? In the case, of phantom limbs, patient feels pain in his amputed limb and pain is cured once his eyes sees the mirror image of his other limb superimposed on his amputed limb. Now extrapolating the same method of cure to apply on phantom thoughts, opinions, perspectives. If by superimposing the Next thought, opinion, perspective you are comfortable with what you see around you or feel relieved of the pain then you got the right perspective, opinion, thought.

So I say keep the right perspectives, opinions, thoughts ,which keeps you happy and ameliorates the pain and settles you comfortably into the matrix of human minds.

I have a opinion/thought/perspective that Adam Smith's "Invisible Hand" is all about this.
Now thats what you call a Extrapolation!

** Wikipedia
*Hard facts/Kewl insights/Fascinating views --Views like "Pain" is just a opinion of the brain, our hands, legs etc. are just the mappings on the brain and mappings can change i.e extreme examples - eyes can hear, your cheeks can feel the sensations on your hand etc..

Phantoms!

I am reading "Phantoms in the Brain : Human nature and the architecture of the mind" by Dr. V. S Ramchandran. The book provides stunning cases, astonishing explanations ( though can be found in plethora of platitudes and wise saying) from scientific point of view, and a glimpse of power of investigative nature of science or of logical deduction.

Till now I have read about the Phantom limbs, virtual limbs in amputees. Dr Ram talks about and explains the curious case of missing limbs and the feeling associated with them, that they still exist.

He says its the mind which has mapping of the each and every body part that we see. It goes on explaining that how mind fools us into thinking & feeling that limb still exists which was amputated long ago,how mind has been trained since childhood to send signals to "the limb" which is contradictory to visual inputs, in case of amputees.

According to Dr. Ram pain is an opinion on the organism's state of health rather than a mere reflexive response to the injury. He goes on to logically conclude that vision has influence on our subjective experiences. In blunt words pain is an illusion created by mind which can be countered.

While thinking about the Phantom limbs it just occurred to me what about the phantom ideals and phantom principles! Aren't we trained or to say conditioned to believe in some ideals since childhood. Shouldn't we use the power of logical deduction to experiment with some ideals ,principles and perspectives? Or should we just blindly follow?

Don't we see masses being conditioned daily ? New phantoms being created every day? for example -- Recession, MNS's vote bank politics,Marketing of products etc..

Case with mind is it can be trained or conditioned to believe in anything and everything. One gotta analyze before accepting anything.

He just enjoyed/felt Diwali from his terrace.

Diwali in one moment :

Is a pleasure trip/a delight for your senses.
Innumerable sounds: with all permutations of Decibels ( 71 -111+) and Frequencies ( I guess 20 -20000 ) to enjoy in every possible direction. Ears are luckier in this respect they can enjoy, all kinds of sound, in every direction.

Play of Lights : All colors Golden,Pink,Blue,Green,Violet,Red,
The ephemeral play of lights,of all colors. Its eyes misfortune that they cant enjoy pleasure of light in every possible direction at very moment.

The smell of burnt gunpowder: Its of the same league as the smell of petrol, of spirit in chemistry lab,of sensuous ladies perfume you love it but can't stand it for long though you wanna keep smelling it. Contradictory but true.

Analysis

The realm of Right ,Wrong & Greater good.

A couple of months back I read “creating a world without poverty. Social business and future of capitalism”, written by Dr. Muhammad Younis. I sank in the “feel good” world of the Dr. Younis. In the book he eloquently describes his approach to remove poverty from face of the Earth. Ambitious.

What I liked about the book is his way of looking at the social issues from Problem & Solution kind of approach, independent of established approaches.

For example as a established practice bank give loan to only credit worthy i.e. only rich. But Dr. Younis gave loan to the poor however small loan might be.

Other example like targeting women for loans, as women are more responsible (may be euphemism for “easy to scare and to persuade”. Ladies no need to get all worked up I am talking about illiterate women, who are getting access to money at lower rate then what landlords charge)

Going by the book, what I liked about Dr. Younis is his persistence. They way he stuck with his goal of removing poverty and in the mean time establishing big corporation, Grameen group of companies, to help poor by charging low interest rate and providing all the basic amenities. I was all impressed and ga - ga about Dr. Younis.

Yesterday me and one of my friend’s friend, SK , were having arbit discussion session in TGIF over a couple of drinks and topic about Muhammad Younis came up. And that was it. He told me that there is a lot of criticism about the methods, for repayments, and Interest rates charged by Grameen bank.

I have googled about Dr. Younis many times and this time was no different. First 2 pages of google search threw no dirt on Dr. Younis. Then I googled “interest rate charged by Grameen bank” and dirt started pouring in on Younis. I read several articles telling about how interest rates, charged by Grameen bank, are just 2% more then the market rate and how it is justified as these ( poor Bangladeshis) are risky customers! How Grameen bank markets 15% annual rate, as so low, and how it is not based on declining principal based calculations hence effectively it is more than 30%! How initially poor people took to loan and now they are more informed so not happy about it! How one guy went to village of Jorba and doesn’t see any development there! How each of these above mentioned hows are refuted and swept off the table point by point by pro-Dr. Younis authors.

Other hows are how Younis is ambitious and markets his philosophy and how he got Clinton to endorse him for Nobel Prize? How Dr. Younis tried to enter into field of politics and how he got kicked out by other players ,out of their fear, of getting shadowed by his presence in political landscape.

After reading all the above mentioned hows I sat thinking what is good (bringing finance more closer to poor or at least the intention of it) and what is bad (marketing stunt used to promote the Grameen bank and lobbying for the Nobel). Is it Dr. Younis or is it Younis?

And I concluded that personal ambition is not a bad thing what matters is -- how many people were affected ( in positive sense) by your intentions and actions. What matters is the concept of greater good. What matters is ‘Is your (Dr. Younis in the case example) conscience clear about what you are doing?’ What matters is ‘Do you believe in the idea, whatever may be cost?’

With time things change, expectations of people will increase, also as you move up in the world people will dig to find out what all you did wrong, and in the process forgetting what all you did right.

To keep an idea alive and enforce it upon others if you need marketing then why not??

I think marketing done with good intentions and for greater good always brings fame.

Dr. Younis it is.

Analysis

The recent row on the success of Pokhran II tests led me to think and research about the subject ,which we were once proud of and now we as a nation are debating over endlessly, to get to the truth of the matter, if there is any way to do that.

As I am not a subject matter expert
, on nuclear physics & WMD & national security policy, I am just adding another flavor to the concoction, which experts have already prepared using their expertise.

Research

1) The concerned issue is not a recent one.Row was started just after a week of the tests ,when some of Indian scientists and foreign analysts expressed the doubt over the success of the test and believed that the yield of the thermonuclear device was lower than expected.

My question: Why sudden upheaval again ?

2) Dr. Santhanam's allegations , "on purely factual basis",about the failure of TN device and the point by point refutation by Anil Kakodkar and R Chidambram.

Doubts raised by Dr. Santharam were on discrepancy between BARC and DRDO data, traces of Na-22 & Mn-54 isotopes,no crater formation and no damage to shaft. These doubts were refuted point by point by
Anil Kakodkar and R Chidambram.

My question: For a laymen, like me, whose contentions should I believe in
Dr. Santhanam's or Anil Kakodkar's and R Chidambram's.

3) Totally different view, but not so different, when we start talking about Nuclear deterrence, which questions the need of TN device altogether, amidst questioning the success and failure of TN device.

When I say
Nuclear deterrence which questions the need of TN device altogether I am talking about the view that fission weapons alone are sufficient for deterrence.

My Question: If China has the capability of TN device, don't you think we should also be "sure" of the fact that we have it too, for the sake of minimum deterrence. If we need to conduct the tests
again to be "sure", of the fact that we do posses the capability of TN device, then why not?

4) Pressure of signing the CTBT. India refused to sign CTBT in New York but committed to get the world rid of nuclear weapons.

My Take: Lets see how many more articles on TN device issue appear in Media from day today.

Why do we need education?

Cliche : To make us better human beings. ( My take: The educated man is more dangerous than the uneducated man )
Another cliche : To make us self reliant. ( My take: Aren't all of us self reliant already?)
Yet another cliche : To take better well judged decisions. ( My take : We take decisions first then try to rationalize them with the education that we have received)
and many more cliches.

To open your mind to various perspectives. Yeah! I believe this cliche.

Do we need to teach a poor child what a similar triangle is ? Or should we teach him how to make best use of resources he has ?

Education can be of many forms - farmer teaching the art of farming to his sons, a beggar teaching his son the subtleties of begging etc.

Floyd Rules -- We don't need no education*!

* Education refers to the dogmatic approach that we see in Schools today.

Project Snehasadan

Can you teach somebody?

Yes ofcourse!

But does the somebody want to learn?

Yes.

But what does the somebody want to learn?

That we need to figure out.

As not all people learn everything. We need to figure out what does one want to learn. From experience : some grasp Math easily, some can appreciate history in context with the contemporary world, and still some want to know/learn about every obscure thing they come across etc.

Project Snehasadan

Mentorship Program for the kids ( at Snehasadan)

What have we been doing from past 4 months --

We a group of seven people have been going to Snehasadan every Sunday for 3 hrs and spending time with kids. What we do in these 3 hrs is teach them or play with them.

We have divided children in 2 categories - class 8th+ and below class 8th

Class 7th and below

We teach them basic communication English and other activities like Drawing,Painting.

Class 8th and above

Subjects ( based on their school curriculum) that we teach them are Maths,Hindi and Social Science.

Problems that we are facing are --

1) Communication - For most of kids Kanada is their mother tongue and we have one member in our group who can speak Kanada, which makes it difficult at times to explain them certain concepts e.g Scholarship or Shatrvritti.

2) Group of 7 people to come regularly is at times is not possible though we try our level best that atleast 3-5 of us are present at Snehasadan. As regularl contact with the kids is the only way we can have everlasting effect on them.

3) Teaching is an art and not all of us can do that. Yeah we can do that in our own ways and that is important.Kids have been just pushed to next standard and their basics are not clear so to teach them their school curriculum is at times frustrating.

Possible solutions --

1) If we can have few volunteers who have Kanada as their mother tongue

2) If we can have few more volunteers join in this initiative we can do round robin kind of setting where in we have to devote 2 weekends(3 hrs every Sunday) a month and we can maintain the regularity in terms of contact with the kids.

3) We are working on this initiative to find a tutor for class 8th and above who can work with the kids on regular basis (i.e 3-4 days a week). Who can take care of School curriculum to boost their ( kids) score in exams which will result in building their confidence level that they can learn ,they can study, they can be somebody in life.

You are most welcome to volunteer for painting, drawing, reading books to them, play with them or anything you are good at and want to share it with the kids.

Aim is to broaden their horizons and make them aware of different perspectives to look at things.

Scenario: My mom walking past a line of beggars, sitting on roadside. She,gripped by sudden emotion of "Dan" or you can call it "Daya Bhav" or just feeling of "pity" or feeling of "self - selfishness" (read it as self minus selfishness), decides to give five rupees to a beggar. She gives Rs 5 to a beggar.

Aftermath: Swarm of beggars ( minus the one who just got Rs 5) surround my mother. She starts to run saying "don't touch me" followed by "hato hato" followed by "don't touch me". But the beggars knew(by experience) that they can bank on the emotion of "Dan" or the "Daya Bhav" or the feeling of "pity". Finally after good 5 mins Mom yielded to persistence of the beggars.

She gave another 10 rupees ( I think so ! I don't remember but yeah it was bigger denomination then before) but this time with the feeling of maybe " Leave-me-alone" or "go-go-take-it-but-don't come-back" or thinking that solution to the problem was to give last time and escape.

Take away -

Taker* - Gets his Money.

Giver* - Looses the basic emotion by which he/she started off!

So, If you can't give all the time or to all then always be careful to whom and in front of whom you give.

Takers always want something and other Takers will always follow the suit .Takers always gain in the end.

Givers always loose the emotion of "Dan" or the "Daya Bhav" or the feeling of "pity" in the end.

* for all people jo bhawanao ko nahin samjhte hai --
Taker here means one who receives anything bole tho beggar in case example shared above.
Giver means one who gives bole tho my Mom in case example shared above.

Analysis cum Take away counter

Few days ago I read few articles on Balochistan Issue, between India and Pakistan, based on different perspectives i.e Pro India and Pro Pakistan. Then I researched and thought. :P
---------------------
Though we don't hear much about Balochistan in newspapers today, but in fact this region has been having problems since time of Independence ( i.e 1947). Issue being - Baloch Sardars ,native Balochs, struggling for autonomy against Pakistan government. Pakistan wont allow this as Balochistan,an immense desert , has huge quantities of natural gas and unexplored oil reserves and is the largest Pakistani province in terms of area, covering almost 48 per cent of the country. Balochistan is also rich in uranium and copper, it accounts for less than 4% of Pakistan's 173 million population.

Another perspective is to look at the issue is American interest in the region . Pipeline war between IPI and TAPI. IPI is the Iran-Pakistan-India pipeline(Iranian to Pakistani Balochistan). TAPI is US-backed Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India pipeline (western Afghanistan via Herat and to Kandahar and Gwadar). Gwadar port , considered to be new Dubai, is the key. Gwadar port developed my Chinese on turnkey basis, is important for China for oil supply from Iran. Cause of concern for USA is that Chinese may turn Gwadar into naval base jeopardizing US interests in the region. So if Balochistan is unstable US profits from it on both fronts i.e. on pipeline issue and the strategic issue, related to China.

So, in short Iran, India,China,USA and Pakistan all are involved in some way or the other in Balochistan issue.

The recent issue is centered around Pakistan blaming RAW, India's intelligence agency, for promoting terrorist activities in the region. Maybe to take heat off the November attack.

The point that I want to make is when so many forces are at interplay and I read articles about our MP's arguing and slashing and blaming Dr. Singh for his response , given at Sharm-El-Shaikh, I feel they are just politically motivated to charge on him for each and every thing he does**. I say we'll never know what is happening in Balochistan as we are not in the thick of things.

So , I think about what should be the most basic issue we should be thinking about - Baloch people. But as always no mention of them , mango people as always squeezed. Its always about cui bono? its always about whats in it for me?

One issue ( Balochistan) - Entities driving their own interests (using the issue) -- BJP for making political agenda to demean Dr. Singh ( though loose connect i.e Balochistan - Pakistan statement at Sharm-El-Shaikh) ,Pakistan to take heat off November attacks,US for pipelines and rivalry against China, Iran,China and Me( for writing a blog to say

" Use every opportunity to make your point or to make a gain" :p)

**( As for the foreign policy, my take is if to stabilize the region,Balochistan, we have to discuss it with Pakistan why not ? as in the end if pipeline is constructed , assuming Balochistan is stabilized, India will be benefited.)

Palatable, delectable & Yummy

Who the fuck cares what you say! the thing which matters is already in your stomach. But the fact that there are so many synonyms and antonyms led me to think that why do we need so many words to describe a feeling, place, artifact etc.

What matters is the moment of experience! But again I remember reading George Orwell's 1984
and how language can be used to restrict the range of one's thoughts. Or what if you have a thought but you dont know the words to describe it!!

Then I think, not every condition/feeling can be put into words. A classic example: In law, how do you define who is insane and who is not? defendants pleading " not guilty by reason of insanity" where do you draw the line?

Then I think, why do we percieve same things so differently! A story may convey some meaning to me ,some other meaning to you and totally other meaning which author had in his mind. General example Frank Kafka's Metamorphosis!

Then I think about Roshomon effect! how an event can introduce different perceptions among people!

Then I eat thin crust Pizza !!

Bangalore Chapter!

One

A days visit to this beautiful city ( the adjective* beautiful here describes the feeling on that day) of gardens. I was awwed by Bangalore's weather.

Visit was primarily because of the reason which always comes in our life at least once when "reasons tend to fly away". I, relying on my unreasonable reasons, took an overnight bus from Chennai; ditching my classes and project , to Bangalore!!

And here I am, still in Bangalore!

Two

Next time I came, I was here for 2 months. This time around there was more reasonable reason for my visit. I got a chance to work in JFWTC, GE as an intern. I added few more adjectives for this awesome city!

Stay was filled with activity - trek, eat outs, night long parties, bakar sessions, pubs, movies and of course how can I forget Patent Analysis.

It was during my tenure at GE that I started to smoke more than 4 cigarettes a day, courtesy Faggu!! Damn Faggu!!

Three

I landed up with a job, in Bangalore, with a software firm Sterling Commerce.
This chapter is etched in my memory for many reasons, but root of all reasons was one. It was a time of parties ,night long talks, innumerable auto rides, movies, restaurants.

This time I experienced a specific kind of disorder! called as girl-in-your-life syndrome. But as I always say every experience is a chance to learn and let me assure you I learned.I learned about my likes and dislikes. It sounds trivial and it is trivial.

Four

Still in Bangalore! but with a feeling that Bangalore chapter of my life is about to end.
Its time for beginning of a new end!

And yeah! adjectives which describe Bangalore now are -- Frustrating(at times), Sucks( wrt Traffic!), Terrific( roads during night time).

Project Snehasadan!

Basic Nature of a human being doesn't change*! True! So don't try to change it.

Only thing you can do for a human being is to help him realize what he wants out of himself!! And this we always do either intentionally or unintentionally!!
______________
Nature, of a human being. how do you define it?
Altruistic,Selfish,Money minded,Competitive,Hard worker,Cribber( I mean who cribs alot :p), Happy-go-lucky,I-give-a-damn,Fast learner etc..

Nature,of a human being. what develops it?
The circumstances faced by the person, in his formative years and right now.
(As humans we have tendency to learn (all the time) that's why we have respective Natures, only problem is most of us don't know that we can learn, and what we are learning.)

Can you change the basic nature of a human being!
Circumstances define the nature and circumstances can force human beings to use that very basic nature to scale greater heights( definition of greater heights is a personal thing, as in it varies from person to person. What is great for me can be totally trivial for you) in life.

e.g A guy,due to troublesome childhood , is hot headed by his very nature. You cant change his nature from being hot-headed to cool-headed guy but what you can do is force him to control his anger and put it to some constructive use.

Then what stops people to scale greater heights?
Greater heights is what gives you satisfaction and keeps you going. What stops people is The Fear, it comes in many varieties.

So I say --
Only thing you can do for a human being is to help him realize what he wants out of himself!! And this we always do either intentionally or unintentionally!!

* Most important assumption : Nature we develop has a specific use in our respective lives. We should know when to cash the cheque. How to cash is not important as in thats in your nature.

Random out-of-context thoughts

People* : my take on them.

They think they have all the answers, they think they have seen the world like no one else, they think they are GOD, they think what they know is the ultimate and only thing.

But can they distinguish between the fake laughter and the real one?Can they help others without motive? Can they think about others ( even if for a sec!)?Can they make someone smile without a reason? Can they realize that others can see through them as they can ( that is the assumption they have! that they can)?

Can I ? :P

Do they know where do they get the confidence from when they put their own The Point,a borrowed idea from someone else, across.

My question whats your age?

* sample includes the following -- people around you while in school, family, college, office and of course! I am also included in the group.

Thoughts on Play: The Blue Mug!!

The Blue Mug!

Director: Atul Kumar

Production: Sachin Kamani. The Company Theatre, Mumbai.

Performed and Devised By : Rajat Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Ranvir Shorie, Sheeba
Chadha, Konkona Sen Sharma, Munish Bhardawaj.

Lights: Meghna Burman/Atul Kumar.

Sound: Preetika Chawla.

Costumes: Atul Kumar.

My interpretation of the Play
( In last couple of weeks I heard many interpretations. That means the Who-so-ever-wrote-the-script has done their job excellently well. As in they made people think[even for few mins!] which I think is the most difficult job :P )

Whats the definition of Self?

Is it the Blue Mug! which you remember? or you try to hold on to?

To elaborate the point, you can see your life the way you wanna see. If you want to be a Loser just think of all the Low points of your life,if you want to be a Winner just think of all the High points of your life. And the way you see your Life reflects in your attitude and action.

Another thing -- we all go through the same things/situations in Life. Its just the matter of perspective!

Things I liked in the play --

1) Use of Lights and Shadows - people in charge deserved the standing ovation and director Atul Kumar deserves kudos for the effect he created.

2) Vinay Pathak - Spontaneity. That is what makes him great! That is what makes him click with the public. Down-to-earth-attitude thats what is very hard to keep after reaching the heights which he has achieved in very short span of time.

3) Ranbir Shourie - Did what he does best the role of the "Innocent Joker". Character for all to laugh at,mind you not character who makes you laugh.

4) Music -

Zindagi Pyaar Ki Do Chaar Ghadi Hoti Hai
Chaahe Thodi Bhi Ho Ye Umra Badi Hoti Hai

Taaj Ya Takht Ya Daulat Ho Zamaane Bhar Ki
Kaun Si Cheez Mohabbat Se Badi Hoti Hai
Zindagi ...

Do Muhabbat Bhare Dil Khaak Dhadakate Ho Jahaan
Sabse Lambi Vo Mohabbat Ki Ghadi Hoti Hai
Zindagi ...
- Anarkali(1953)

I am dancing :P right here, right now!! right here, right now!!

Things I didn't like -

1) Costume of Rajat Kapoor.

2) Sheeba too too too theatrical.

3) Role given to Konkana Sen. I totally understand the oomph factor, the marketing stunt, but in my opinion she should have tried Sheeba's role.

But the none the less play made me think and I think it made people think too!!

Yet again thanks Rangashankara!!

Project Snehasadan !!

Time to quantify the intangible!!

Trust!!

What is trust ?
Is it something which makes you give your life away for somebody or is it something which makes you take your life in your hand for somebody?

What makes you trust Somebody?
The trust that the Somebody will always be there no matter what.

How do you command trust from someone?
Make them realize that you'll always be there no matter what.

How do you do it?
Be there no matter what.

It takes time to build trust. Timelines vary from person to person i.e how long it takes to build trust!

Also intentions should be right! i.e you should be clear what you want to do,your actions should not be governed by fear, ego.

Thoughts on Play: Gertrude

Gertrude

Director : Phyllis Bose.

Play was funny at times, thought provoking at times and just plain awesome at other times.
Actress Phyllis Bose is the stalwart of theatre. An English lady, married to a Bengali, living in Bangalore and focusing on theatre in education.

She played the part of Gertrude Stein in the most fitting way bringing out all the eccentricities of the character just by words!! just by words!! Of course with the help of all the props and the settings, which builds the character of the personality at display i.e Gertrude Stein.

Its was the beginning of the beginning in many more ways than one*!!
I love Plays!I love thoughts that they provoke! Trick is just listen!
Funny part is the only people who listen are the ones who don't have to remember it*!

Gertrude Stein ! The writer, the person after my own heart.
Why do you need punctuation.
Why do you need question mark es.
If you really want to understand the writer and his/her write please look into yourself - Bhawanao ko samjho :p

Things I like( should be liked but I still like them :() in the play

1) The thoughts to which I got introduced/relate to --

What happens if Identity and Memory meets eternity?
Identity.
Doing things than talking about things.
A Rose is a Rose is a Rose is a Rose!

2) Actress
Expressions!Intonation!Accent!

3) Script
Myriad of things that it covered - world of Paintings!Human Relationships! concept of Identity!
concept of Genius!
Anecdotes! and the dialogues(though the play was a monolouge!;))! ooh my!! What a display of pure genius!
I love Digression from the topic at centre and that the play was the perfect display.

4) Direction!

The denouement! The protagonist standing in front of the portrait of herself by Piccaso becoming the Self then and there.
You gotta see it to understand it! It just cant be put into words it will be injustice to the director!!

5) New world!
of Paintings -- Matisse,Cessane,Juan Gris,Braque and last but not the least Pablo Piccaso.

I am in my 29th year of my 26th year of Life**.

Thanks Rangashankara.

Thoughts on play: An Idiot out on a Dinner!

An Idiot out on a Dinner!!

What a play it was!! Really hillarious! The thing that I liked most about the performance was the spontaneity of couple of the characters. For me Comedy is all about the spontaneity. And heck yeah ! Evam Entertainment Group has it.

Original Play by : Francis Veber.

Director: Micheal Muthu

Troupe: Evam Entertainment

Characters that I loved -

Hari, Tax Auditor. You need to see him to realize what spontaneity is. he deserved the standing ovation that he got.

R Golden Gopu. The Idiot. He just went into the character,he played it so beautifully and with so much of ease that at times I thought is he like that in his personal life as well.:P

Sam.Freind. His timings of Laugh made me laugh and roll on the floor.

Thoughts while watching the play-

Damn the Indian directors( film directors) Bheja fry was a perfect copy with not a single bit of original imagination of the Director.

Play is by far more entertaining then the movie.

Hari of this play outclassed Ranbir Shouri's performance (in movie Bheja Fry)by miles!

Thanks Rangshankara!!!

The sudden trip to Tumkur!! and the funny, scary, amusing incident in the night time!!

At around 10:30 PM in the night I decide that I should go for a bike ride. It was Friday night so plan was to come back by Saturday evening and driving approx 350 Kms to and fro.

Original plan -- Go to Hassan and see if I can go to Chikmagalur.

What happened -- Packed the bag (items those went into the bag - pen, cigarette pack, diary, water bottle, facewash) and left home at around 11 PM. After driving for 10 mins I realize I dont have cash and there is minimal petrol in the bike.

So I am off to Udupi Garden petrol bunk for refueling the tank. Thats when I came to know that they wont except credit card from 10:30 in the night till 6 in the morning. I was lucky that I had Rs 200 hundred in cash so I got my bike's petrol tank filled for Rs 200 worth of fuel, thinkingI'll see what can be done later on with regards to refueling, and I am on my way.

Next stop SBI ATM in BTM 1st stage and got loaded with cash( with whatever was left in my account).

I take the road to Yashwantpur going towards Tumkur. Based on my estimation I thought atleast I'll be able to make to Tumkur and will be able to return with some fuel still left for the week.

I am some 20 Kms ( approx.) from Tumkur when I see Jaz toll company's toll collection gate*.

I am stopped for questioning as I am a suspicious character travelling at night time for no reason.

The field officer Vaid Murthy had the following questions
Most frequent question " Why are you going to Tumkur?"
Followed by less frequent question " Itni raat gaye kya akele! kyun be kya lafda hai?"

It took me 20 mins to explain him that I am just going for ride. He checked my bag, purse, windcheater.

Finally he asks me which religion do I belong to and proof of that. I told him I am Jain and showed him the picture I have in my wallet. His comment --" Tu Hindu hai isleye chod raha hoon agar Musalman hota tho abhi thane le jata"

I was just dumbstruck thinking should I thank god or should I blame somebody for this condition.

* Some 11,000 vehicles cross this gate/day.

Gyan for the Geeks!!

2. Facts

-- Word serendipity comes from the ancient name of Sri Lanka, long before Ceylon,Serendib, given by Arab travellers.
Serendib --The name was recorded in use at least as early as ad 361 and for a time gained considerable currency in the West. It is best known to speakers of English through the word serendipity, invented in the 18th century by the English man of letters Horace Walpole on the inspiration of a Persian fairy tale, “The Three Princes of Serendip,” whose heroes often made discoveries by chance. -- Courtsey -Encyclopedia Britanica.
-- Lanka is very green!
-- It has amazing coastline with white sand and clear waters.

D Traveller - travelouge

Part I -- Sri Lanka trip (super express trip!!)
Duration : 6th June - 10th June'09 ( 4 days 3 nights)
Self discovery in the land of serendipity

1. Realizations
-- I like travelling but travelling with some comapny is more fun.
-- I have adventourous spirit but at times I am not that adventourous.
-- Travelling alone is very expensive and my paymaster doesnot pay that much.
-- I can bargain but I am always at the loosing end of the deal.
-- I make freinds very fast my trick is too offer a cigrette or a beer.
-- I am bad at managing my money.
-- I cant take exams anymore.
-- I cant spot mongoose at one go!
-- Travelling alone is a good thing to clear your head and ponder over things but problem with me is all the thoughts are assimilated and I know what I want so travelling alone is lonely at times and boring at other times.

--I dont like yellow light in my room when I am alone in some xyz country. Its scary. Otherwise its sexy.
-- I dont give up and I cant help it.

v.1 to v.n to v.final

Read v as version...

This is the story of any project that you do! be it related to work or apart from work.

V.1 starts around the so called Objective, a simple/whimsical/genuine idea, set by the so called Leader but written by subordinates. It elaborates on the ways how are we going to go about the achieving the Objective. It talks about the whimsical( read it as Aggressive) timelines, about who will do it, about how good the idea is.

V.2 to v.n --- No idea

V.final -- Objective has a sense of familiarity to it,you think you have seen it somewhere but you are not sure where. It elaborates on the ways ( totally different from v.1 n v.2 n so on till v.n) how are we going to achieve the Objective. It talks about the whimsical( read it as Aggressive) timelines, about who will do it, about how good the idea is.

My eyes seek reality
My fingers seek my veins
There's a dog at your back step
He must come in from the rain
I fall cause I let go
The net below has rot away
So my eyes seek reality
And my fingers seek my veins

The trash fire is warm
But nowhere safe from the storm
And I can't bear to see
What I've let me be
So wicked and worn

So as I write to you
Of what is done and to do
Maybe you'll understand
And won't cry for this man
cause low man is due
Please forgive me

My eyes seek reality
My fingers feel for faith
Touch clean with a dirty hand
I touch the clean to the waste

The trash fire is warm
But nowhere safe from the storm
And I can't bear to see
What I've let me be
So wicked and worn

So as I write to you
Of what is done and to do
Maybe you'll understand
and won't cry for this man
cause low man is due
Please forgive me
Please forgive me
Please forgive me

So low the sky is all I see
All I want from you is forgive me
So you bring this poor dog in from the rain
Though he just wants right back out again

And I cry, to the alleyway
Confess all to the rain
But I lie, lie straight to the mirror
The one I've broken, to match my face

The trash fire is warm
But nowhere safe from the storm
And I can't bear to see
What I've let me be
So wicked and worn

So as I write to you
Of what is done and to do
Maybe you'll understand
And won't cry for this man
cause low man is due
Please forgive me
Please forgive me

So low the sky is all I see
All I want from you is forgive me
So you bring this poor dog in from the rain
Though he just wants right back out again

My eyes seek reality

a song I just like

Oh, life is bigger
It's bigger than you
And you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
The distance in your eyes
Oh no, I've said too much
I set it up

(chorus)
That's me in the corner
That's me in the spotlight, I'm
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no, I've said too much
I haven't said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

Every whisper
Of every waking hour I'm
Choosing my confessions
Trying to keep an eye on you
Like a hurt lost and blinded fool, fool
Oh no, I've said too much
I set it up
Consider this
Consider this
The hint of the century
Consider this
The slip that brought me
To my knees failed
What if all these fantasies
Come flailing around
Now I've said too much
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

But that was just a dream
That was just a dream

(repeat chorus)

But that was just a dream
Try, cry, why try?
That was just a dream
Just a dream, just a dream
Dream

Favourite* Chai place : the group of chaiwallas standing near the HSBC building on Bannerghatta road.

I have named it the *twing* place :p for personal reference ( for my mente!) :).I love this place! always croweded with people yet you have your privacy!

Today I read a very funny (for me! :) ) yet so true quote on a car parked in front of the twing place. It goes like this --

Quote 1 " Girlfriends are like medicines
they come with expiry date"

Girls no need to get all worked up I took it as --

Quote 2 "Girlfriends/Boyfriends are like medicines
they come with expiry date"

Its so true!! for most of the cases. As in I have seen exceptions too!

But the point I want to make here is why is that I see Quote 1 type of quotes only!
why not Quote 2 type of quotes!

Who to blame? Society! ( most common thing which gets blamed for each and every thing! poor thing!) or the people/person who are/is blaming!

I am not blaming anybody just making my point ! :D

In case of sponge to get the water out you need to squeeze it and in case of the mind to get the "water" out you don't need to worry about it, it just comes out as and when required ( but again if you try to "squeeze" the mind "water" wont come out!)
Whats the relation between Passion and Time? if there is any.

Passion -- Something you like to do all the time!! (of course!!if given the choice or chance)

Time -- Some times when you are doing what "you like" and you are so immersed in it !! and the realization when you accidentally pay attention to other things other than "your like" is "time"!!

Man I should be jailed for writing this as in a way it goes against the normal ethics about work.
By work here I mean what you do for living.I work in Marketing.

Marketing is the worst idea of the century courtesy America! But the absolute truth(my:as in it may vary from person to person) is it works,it makes money,it screws the brain in weird ways!

It works -- Statistics show that!
It makes Money -- P&L shows that! and I have learned to respect P&Ls.
It screws the brain in wierd ways -- thats my personal opinion based on what I see around and the solution lies in the "intention" with which you market things.
Most puzzling, amusing, absurd behavior (of people ,of friends) till date I have seen goes smthing like this.

Scenario: two langotiye yaar (too fast friends!! waise literal translation means old friends which is mostly interpreted, assumed as fast friends) meeting after long time

F: Whats up dude?
D: Dude!!!! M fine U tell me how have you been?

F: WTF!! Dude No contact! No call! Bahut bada aadmi ho gaya hai tu!!
D: hehe

Clue : Point of absurdity here is "contact" takes two to happen! here you go Dugar! :) hehe

1. What we know! we know! what we dont! we dont! ( please!! it doesn't mean stop all scientific research ! it means was Hitler bad?(or read it as does God exists!?) No ans! here you go Dugar!)

2. What you wanna do! you wanna do! there is no explanation for that! ( though I have a speculative theory!! who doesn't have one! heheh )but the crucial part is do you know "why" you wanna do!?

( Extension to point 2 : why is it important to know "why" you wanna do what you wanna do!

Hypothetical scenario : what if you get a glimpse of the future?

Will you still do what you really wanna do or your "Will" to
do what you really wanna do will flicker :) :p )

3. Then you are you!! and I am I.

Problems Vs Solutions !!! heheh eternal conflict!!

What is a Problem? A thing of which you dont know the solution! or thing which you are afraid to do! or thing which your ego cant stand! or thing too low for your standards! or thing which you dont care about!

What is a solution? solution! :)

Who is a Leader( I am talking about the Utopian kinds not the one we see in our daily life)??

I say a person who can take care of larger than life Egos, shadowing all that life has to give, around him and channelize them to do what those Egos wanna do.

But again wont that lead to the problem of Arrogance ? Yeah sure the efforts of the leader maybe interpreted as driven by his own ego but for the leader thats not the issue as he'll never see it as "I wanna do this" ,"I wanna do that" I am supreme"," I can bend anybody" Nope. It will work as I (Utopian leader) am going to do this anyways if you can help me please you are invited to help me out for common cause with your larger than life Ego, I have place for that too .
In short everybody works as the leader.

Then what about the common cause! hmm.. That will take care of it itself. If intentions are right things will get done you have no choice in it anyways.

F:whats up?
D:*Slap*

F: now say thank you!!
D:thank you it really helped.

F: so what are you ?
D: m D!

F:what do you do while you are here?
D: I do what I do!

F: is it wrong? or is it right wat u do?
D: WTF! No idea! I do it thats all I am capable of.

PS: Definitions of Right and Wrong varies from person to person ,they even vary in the their degree of intensity I mean how right it is?
Twing!!

Break a alot of rules!!! on second thoughts all the rules!! but do remember to make some principles on the way !!

Rules!! who the fuck made them anyway!! to contain us ,to govern our individual identities, to civilize us. I say if we really know what we really are doing no need for rules but again I think what if what we really are doing is (so called) "Evil" like the phycos running around serially killing people!!

Principles!! Who decides them! Its the inherent "I" which decides it but then again it is different for different people!! No fucking stated stand alone fixed set of principles. Then why does it happen that few principles which I have heard read or I think I like are appealing to me others not!! maybe genes who knows anyway!!!

Crux is it all starts with "I know" then swims in "Why"and ends with fucking "No Idea why" .
